Football Ribbons

Remember the days when football ribbons were sold each week before the game?

The ribbons below are circa late 1969-1970 and as bad as they look now, they are treasures that I will always hang on to.

These football ribbons capture a place and time and they bear the names of friends and teachers that I prize even more than these green and gold reminders.

The visiting and dancing will go on until the last person tires out and goes home.

On October 5th is the 100th anniversary of the First Baptist Church in Crystal City.

It is also the church's last service due to declining membership.

It's official now I guess (that the church is closing), I have received my invitation. I am looking forward to seeing people I have not seen in years there but I am sad that it is because it is the end of the era of the First Baptist Church of Crystal City, TX.

The second weekend of November is the annual Spinach Festival and though I have not yet received the entry form, our group, the Crystal City Bulletin, is planning to have a float entry in the parade. More information to follow on this.

For additional information on any of the events above, you can email me at the address below. Please note that you will need to put the appropriate symbols in the address where I have written them out. I did this to discourage junk emails.

God Bless Texas

After having dug to a depth of 10 feet last year, New York scientists found traces of copper wire dating back 100 years and came to the conclusion, that their ancestors already had a telephone network more than 100 years ago.

Not to be outdone by the New Yorkers, in the weeks that followed,in California an archaeologist dug to a depth of 20 feet, and shortly after, headlines in the LA Times newspaper read: 'California archaeologists have found traces of 200 year old copper wire and have concluded that their ancestors already had an advanced high-tech communications network a hundred years earlier than the New Yorkers.'

One week later, The Houston Chronicle, a local newspaper in Texas, reported the following: 'After digging as deep as 30 feet in his pasture near Alvin, Brazoria County, Texas, Bubba Mitchell, a self-taught archaeologist and graduate of Texas A&M, reported that he found absolutely nothing. Bubba has therefore concluded that 300 years ago, Texas had already gone wireless.
