Back Then

One more post regarding the Tavern. Here are a couple of scans by Cal Marsh of the old Tavern Menu. One look at the prices and you will realize those days are long gone!

    I'm doing this from a better e-mail address..

    I recall going over to Piedras Negras with my folks and having carne guisada & bolillos at the Moderno. I was like 6 or 7...

    1955 or thereabouts.

    I remember a lot of trips to Piedras as well. We used to go to the market over there. A big open market. I could just about drive to it from memory but dont know if there was a name for it. I too was about 6 at that time.

    I was last in Piedras and Crystal City in March of 2001. I had gone to Bandera for my mom's funeral and went to tell her friends in the Crystal City area.. I went over to Piedras and saw the mercado and had a beer at the Moderno.

    I still would like to know how to make the "tacos portuguesas".
